Research Action Plan.....it's a GO!

I haven't changed my plan but once I embark on my initial survey, I feel confident that information gathered will drive my path and narrow my topic considerably. Please take a minute to read my plan and I'd love to hear your thoughts/comments.

Week 3 posting of Action Research Project Process Overview

1. Examining the work: Setting the Foundation – to find out why teachers leave school and or the teacher profession and gain insight how to create an environment to increase teacher retention.
2. Analyzing data – I will use information from AIES reports, surveys and literature gathered throughout this process to see if trends occur regarding reasons teachers leave.
3. Developing deeper understanding – I think once I have analyzed data, I would talk to experienced administrators regarding my findings and gain their insight to the situation and success and failures within school climate.
4. Engaging in Self-Reflection – During this time I think I would be looking at what I have learned and exactly what I can use to ensure schools that I am a part of currently and in the future are able to have an environment that promotes student and teacher success.
5. Exploring Programmatic Patterns – Discuss findings with site supervisor for possible solutions that teachers may be having on our campus to ensure our teacher retention rate is on the rise and people are leaving for reasons that can be fixed or at least worked on from within.
6. Determining direction – In addition to my 2 administrators on campus, I will be working with the SBDM committee and our PTO board to increase involvement for community/parents so that our school has the highest rate of success possible and relationships are established so that people do not want to go elsewhere.
7. Taking action for school improvement – Using my action plan template, I would begin to monitor my progress and revise as needed.
8. Sustaining improvement – I would want to share my findings with others hoping that what I have discovered will help our school and possibly others retain the highest caliber of teachers possible.

Week 2 reflection 5301 Research

I am very excited about my chosen topic which is how to increase teacher retention rates including what makes teachers leave schools and/or the teaching profession all together. My principal thought it was a great topic for me to look into and gave me some helpful avenues to pursue. I am hoping that all that I learn I can apply into any situation I am in be it a classroom or administrative positions.

Purpose/Significance of Action Research Study - wk 2(from discussion board)

The purpose of my proposed action research study is to understand why teachers leave schools and/or the profession all together. My first thought would be teachers leave because of negative school climate but I want to know if there are other major reasons as well and look at data from schools that have high retention rates for teachers.
The significance of my proposed action study, I believe will benefit everyone in a school community because if teachers are happy and want to stay then that provides consistency for students who will be more successful. As a future note, I believe this research will help me gain insight on how I want to develop and keep a climate in the school that I lead to be where teachers, students, and parents want to be.

How Educational Leaders Can Use Blogs.....

What is it that everyone complains of not having enough? That's right....TIME! With all the responsibilities educators have, another meeting is so daunting. With modern technology we can be online with people 24/7. Posing a question to a community of learners and getting feedback when it is convenient for others is a definite plus to blogging. Blogging is a way to stay connected with a group or groups of people without having to work around multiple schedules because they can access the "meeting" at midnight or morning.

5301 - Week 1 posting....Action Research

Action Research is just that...ACTION... I am excited to begin this journey because it is more than looking up a topic to see what "experts" have to say about the topic or their findings. I know these are creditable people but they aren't always addressing my particular issues in my school. There are definitely things to be gained from a broad perspective but using action research allows me to take the information that is specific to my school's need and go from there. As a team, we have begun some of this without realizing it was defined as action research. It is very important to gather and analyze data and create change according to the students' needs. I believe action research will not only benefit me personally as I reflect on my own leadership styles including strengths and weaknesses but impact my school community to thrive in a positive and warm environment. I want teachers to remember why they became teachers and always have that spark and love for the field of education and all it entails. Supporting teachers and empowering them for personal and their student's success will be key in my administrative style. If my teachers are happy, I believe my student's will be happy and both will excel and have a love for learning that will be matched by no other.

Action Plan

Action Plan
Stacey Kluttz

Data Analysis:
Through looking at all the data in our Campus Improvement Plan and STaR charts it is evident that teachers do not feel adequately trained to use the current software, tools and equipment available on our campus.
Professional Development: Teachers will first look at the data from the AEIS report, STaR chart, and campus information from our PDAS applications – Eduforia to show how to use this information and complete a survey as to what specific areas they would like to be more trained in to improve the technology use and integration on our campus. Teachers may also take a survey as to what technology tools they use for themselves and what they use in their lessons such as charts, spreadsheets, documents, etc… Once this information is gathered another PD session should take place to show teachers how to use technology effectively in the classroom.

Evaluation: Teachers will complete the above survey and campus leaders will evaluate the needs of the campus to help teachers integrate lessons. Teachers will be given a time frame to implement lessons and report back to campus leaders/staff about successes and things that need work.

Professional Development: Campus leaders will improve decision making in the integration of technology with instructional and organizational leadership by creating a team of technology equipment, tools and software “experts”. This team will help the campus administrator to effectively implement technology requirements throughout the campus to ensure district goals and objectives are being met.

Evaluation: Campus teachers and administrators will evaluate the effectiveness the team of experts looking at the new AIES, STaR charts, and Eduforia items for this year. This will see if there was improvement on these levels. Also teacher surveys should be administered to see what worked and receive ideas for the next year.
